A floating mat is a simple thing that signals a serious yacht. Fifty three in our charter fleet carry one, with a median length of sixty three metres and a median weekly rate of three hundred and seventy five thousand euros, both well above the fleet average.
The reason is space. A mat is a large piece of foam that needs somewhere to live when deflated and a crew willing to deploy and recover it, so it appears on yachts with real lazarette volume and deck teams to match. Fifty one of the fifty three are motor yachts and only two are sailing. Feadship and Benetti lead with five each, followed by Golden Yachts and Oceanco with three. Breakthrough, Renaissance and Excellence are all in this group, and thirty nine of the fifty three take twelve guests.
Rates run from sixty five thousand euros a week to three and a half million. An advance provisioning allowance of around thirty percent covers fuel, food, berthing and drinks. The mat itself costs nothing to run, but it is a reliable indicator of a well equipped beach club and a crew who set up properly.
