The Sporades are among the most rewarding destinations in the Aegean for explorer yacht charter. The island chain ends at Alonnisos, beyond which the national marine park extends over a large area of protected water encompassing deserted islets, monk seal habitat and some of the clearest marine environment in the Mediterranean. Explorer yachts, with their extended range, reinforced hulls and slow-travel philosophy, are ideal for reaching the park outriders that smaller charter vessels rarely access.
Beyond the marine park, explorer yachts can push northeast toward the Northern Sporades: Pelagos, Piperi and Psathoura, the last accessible only by special permit and home to some of the deepest-water diving in the Aegean. South from Skiathos, a longer passage reaches Pelion, Euboea and eventually the central Aegean if the itinerary allows.
Weekly charter rates for explorer yachts in Greece range from around 50,000 to 250,000 euros, with an advance provisioning allowance of approximately 30 percent covering fuel, provisions and crew expenses. Because explorer yachts are fuel-efficient relative to planing motor yachts, long-range itineraries through the marine park often come in under the advance provisioning estimate.
The Sporades season runs from May through October, with September and October offering the best combination of warm water, reduced crowds and reliable but less aggressive meltemi conditions suited to extended passages in slower explorer vessels.
