April through October gives Rhodes some of the most reliable weather in the Dodecanese, with July and August the hottest months and also the windiest, as the meltemi builds along the east coast and funnels hard through Prasonisi. The west coast stays noticeably calmer in these conditions. June and September combine warm water with lighter winds and quieter anchorages at Lindos and Kalithea.
Rhodes International Airport, known as Diagoras, sits near the village of Paradisi, about 14 kilometres southwest of Rhodes Town, roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive. It’s the busiest airport in the Dodecanese, with frequent flights from across Europe as well as connections to Athens, making Rhodes an easy island to join a charter from directly.
St Paul’s Bay beneath the Lindos acropolis is a favourite for its dramatic setting and easy walk up into the village. Kalithea Bay, closer to Rhodes Town, offers calmer water and the restored Art Deco spa buildings ashore. In a strong meltemi, the more sheltered west coast around Kamiros or Kritinia generally holds better than the exposed anchorages near Lindos.
Three to four nights let guests properly divide time between Rhodes Old Town, the acropolis of Lindos and a couple of beach days at Kalithea or Pefkos, without rushing any of them. As the largest island in the Dodecanese and its main transport hub, Rhodes also works naturally as a start or end point for a wider charter taking in Symi, Halki or Kos.
At Rhodes’s southern tip, a narrow sandy spit separates the Aegean Sea to the east from the Mediterranean to the west, and in windy weather the two sides visibly behave differently, often choppy on one shore and comparatively calm on the other. That contrast, combined with reliable summer wind, has made Prasonisi one of Europe’s best-regarded windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations.
