About Alaskan Story

The ALASKAN STORY is a 27-metre (90-foot) Westport built expressly for exploring Southeast Alaska, and few yachts are more at home in these waters. Large, fast and comfortable, with spacious common areas for fishing, wildlife watching and taking in the scenery, she was designed by her former owners around a combined sixty years of experience chartering in Alaska. That rich tradition now continues under three born-and-bred Alaskans who operate the vessel and share their home waters with every guest aboard.

Aboard the ALASKAN STORY, guests come face to face with Alaska’s extraordinary wildlife. Humpback whales, brown bears, orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoises and bald eagles are regular sights, and with a little luck guests may even spot wolves and moose along the shoreline. Days are shaped around discovery, from cruising past glaciers and slipping into quiet anchorages to venturing ashore for hikes and expedition-style adventures.

Inside, the ALASKAN STORY is a warm and comfortable base from which to explore. A beautiful teak interior runs throughout, complemented by all-new stainless-steel appliances and a new aft dining area with a 270-degree view. The enclosed top-deck pilothouse is a particular highlight, allowing guests to sit comfortably alongside the captain and take in the natural beauty and wildlife of Southeast Alaska in any weather. Covered decks and generous interior spaces provide excellent visibility even when the conditions turn, while hundreds of books, films and a Bose sound system keep everyone entertained.

The galley, saloon, dining area and day head sit together on the main level, creating an easy, sociable flow. Accommodation comprises four staterooms: two aft cabins with walk-around queen beds and two forward cabins each with two twin berths, all with en-suite bathrooms and showers and individual thermostats for personal comfort. A spacious TV and reading room lies forward, with additional crew cabins and facilities keeping the guest areas private.

Fishing is central to the experience. The ALASKAN STORY carries a 17-foot Boston Whaler with a four-stroke outboard, backed by a rigid-bottom inflatable, and provides all the saltwater gear needed for salmon and halibut, along with crab and shrimp pots. Two double kayaks and stand-up paddleboards round out the toys, opening up the shoreline for quiet exploration.

Safety and self-sufficiency are woven into every system. The ALASKAN STORY holds a five-star rating from the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s voluntary inspection, carries extensive first-aid and medical supplies including a defibrillator, and runs redundant navigation systems, radar and satellite tracking. Twin turbocharged Caterpillar engines, twin generators, large inverters and a water-maker producing up to 1,200 gallons a day allow her to venture confidently into remote waters, with the generators switched off at night for the quiet enjoyment of the anchorage.

Authentic, capable and steeped in Alaskan tradition, the ALASKAN STORY offers a genuine wilderness charter guided by people who know these waters better than almost anyone.

For those who dream of Southeast Alaska, the ALASKAN STORY offers something rare: a capable, comfortable yacht crewed by locals whose passion for the region is matched only by their knowledge of it, turning every voyage into a true Alaskan story.
