Cabo is warm year-round, but most charter guests favor November through May, when humidity drops and daytime temperatures stay in the mid-twenties Celsius. Whale season runs January through March, when humpback and gray whales migrate close to shore and sightings from a private yacht are near guaranteed. Summer brings higher heat and the chance of tropical storms between June and November, so late spring and winter remain the most reliable windows for a charter.
Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) in San Jose del Cabo is the main gateway, roughly forty minutes by road from Cabo San Lucas Marina where most charters embark. It’s served by direct flights from major US, Canadian, and Mexican hubs. Guests can also fly into San Jose del Cabo and transfer straight to the yacht, avoiding downtown Cabo San Lucas traffic entirely during the busy winter season.
Medano Beach and Chileno Bay are the most popular stops close to town, with calm water suited to swimming and paddleboarding. Santa Maria Bay, a protected horseshoe cove about twenty minutes north, is quieter and better for snorkeling. For a longer day, Cabo Pulmo National Park on the Sea of Cortez side offers the healthiest reef diving in the region, though it sits roughly ninety minutes by sea from the marina.
Three to four days covers the essentials: El Arco, Medano Beach, Santa Maria Bay, and a day of fishing or diving. Guests wanting to add Cabo Pulmo or extend into the Sea of Cortez toward La Paz typically plan five to seven days, which also allows a buffer day if winter swell affects the Pacific-facing anchorages.
Cabo sits close to a deep-water canyon, which pulls blue and black marlin, tuna, and dorado within a short run of the marina year-round. The waters host Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament each October, one of the richest fishing tournaments in the world, when the marina fills with serious sportfishing yachts. Guests chartering outside tournament week generally find calmer marina traffic and more availability for fishing charters.
