FREEDOM is an Alalunga 78, an Italian flybridge motor yacht built in 2007 and brought up to date in a 2021 refit. She suits guests who want pace and ease in equal measure, moving quickly between the islands of the Ionian and the wider Greek coast while keeping the informal, close to the water feel of a smaller yacht.
Alalunga built its name on planing hulls that run hard and handle cleanly, and FREEDOM carries that character. Her hull likes speed, and the 2021 refit refreshed her finishes, systems and toys, so she charters as a current yacht rather than one showing its age. The result is a boat that feels quick to board, quick to move and quick to settle into on the first day aboard.
Much of life happens on the flybridge. Sunpads run aft, the upper helm keeps the captain part of the conversation, and a shaded lounge and bar sit at the centre of the deck. As the light drops, the same space becomes an easy spot for a drink before dinner, with the Greek coast sliding past on either side. It is the kind of deck that makes a yacht of this size feel generous.
The aft deck sits a step from the water, set for meals in the shade and quiet mornings over coffee. Forward, a broad run of sunpads gives a private corner away from the group, and a swim platform keeps the sea within reach for swimming, paddleboarding and the tender. A well stocked watersports locker adds to the appeal for families who want the day on the water rather than at anchor.
Inside, the main deck salon reads as one calm, connected space. A lounge sits forward under wide windows, a formal dining table works aft, and warm woods and pale seating keep the mood light. The room is designed for movement between sea, deck and table rather than for formality, and the air conditioning makes it a welcome retreat in the heat of the afternoon.
Four cabins sleep ten guests below. The master runs full beam with its own en suite, a VIP mirrors it with a private bathroom, and two further cabins, one a double and one a twin that converts to suit children or friends, complete the layout. Each has its own en suite, several finished with porthole light, and the accommodation feels generous for a yacht of this length.
A crew of four run FREEDOM with the informality her size invites, close enough to look after the detail without ever crowding the day. Service feels personal rather than staged, which is much of the reason to charter a yacht at this scale.
FREEDOM spends her summers in Greece, working the Ionian from a base at Preveza and ranging along the coast as the weather and the mood allow. Her speed makes short work of a crossing, so an itinerary can stay loose and follow the best anchorages rather than a fixed plan. For a family or a small group after pace, comfort and genuine flybridge living at a sensible price, she is an easy yacht to choose.
