Zemi answers a specific request: a 110 foot carbon sloop quick enough to make passages interesting, and calm enough to carry a family across an ocean without anyone thinking about it. Her owner had sailed enough to know the difference.
Malcolm McKeon drew her, working again with A2B Marine Projects after the pair delivered Baltic 112 Liara. The result is a versatile performance cruiser rather than a stripped racer: twin rudders for control at angle of heel, a lifting keel that swings draft between 3.8 and 5.8 metres, and 95 tonnes of displacement kept honest by an all-carbon structure.
Propulsion is where she departs from convention. Zemi is the third Baltic to run electric drive, a lithium-ion powered Danfoss motor turning a conventional shaft. It is quieter and smoother than a diesel, emits nothing at the point of use, and reverses its role under sail as the free-wheeling propeller regenerates into the battery bank. Twin 129 kW Cummins generators meet IMO Tier 3, so the support systems match the ambition.
Andreas Martin-Loef Arkitekter designed the interior from Stockholm, and it carries that studio’s restraint: quiet materials, considered proportion, nothing competing for attention. Aft, a multi-function transom folds down into a beach club, and the tender lives in a stern garage rather than cluttering the deck.
Delivered in 2023, Zemi shows the current Baltic thinking on how a family cruiser at this size should work.
