Excess / Excess 11
VPLP Design drew the Excess 11 as proof that a 37-footer can sail like a much larger catamaran without the bulk or the budget. At 11.42 metres with 6.59 metres of beam, the twin hulls carry enough volume for three cabins, six berths and a 2 x 2 metre owner bed, yet keep displacement under 9,000 kilograms, giving the 90 square metre upwind rig real leverage in light air. Twin helm stations sit aft, connected to a social cockpit that flows seamlessly to the saloon through a full-width companionway.
Patrick le Quement shaped the exterior; Nauta Design opened up the interior with cedar woodwork and white-touch surfaces that reflect light rather than absorb it. Two heads with separate showers serve the layout, and a proper galley handles extended cruising without compromise. CE Category A certification to 8 persons means offshore passages are part of the programme, not an afterthought.
Standard twin 29-horsepower saildrives keep things simple under power, while a hybrid electric option pairs twin 10-kilowatt pod motors with a 22 kVA generator for silent anchoring and low-emission harbour manoeuvring. A Riders Edition adds taller rig options and uprated hardware for owners who want to push sail area further.
Priced from approximately EUR 382,000 ex-VAT, the Excess 11 competes with monohulls of similar length on cost while delivering twice the deck space and a stability margin that changes how you use a boat this size.
