Excess / Excess 14
VPLP Design created the Excess 14 as the flagship of a range built to prove that sailing catamarans can prioritise performance without sacrificing interior volume. At 13.97 metres overall, with beam stretching to 7.87 metres and optional bowsprit configurations pushing the total envelope to 16.46 metres, this is a catamaran that carries serious sail area. The square-top main measures 83 square metres, and the 123 square metre upwind total climbs to 135 with the Pulse Line rig option.
Four cabins and four heads with separate showers serve eight guests across a layout that gives the owner suite proper separation from the guest accommodation. Displacement stays at 12,800 kilograms, keeping the power-to-weight ratio in territory where twin 45-horsepower saildrives feel like a sensible complement to a strong rig rather than the primary means of getting anywhere.
CE Category A certification to 10 persons underpins genuine offshore capability, and the twin 200-litre fuel tanks provide enough range under power for calm-weather passages or marina approaches. Construction is composite, built in France to the structural standards the Beneteau Group applies across its yards.
A Riders Edition adds upgraded rigging hardware and sail plan enhancements for owners who want to extract more from the platform. New pricing starts from approximately EUR 650,000 ex-VAT, positioning the Excess 14 as a credible alternative to larger cruising catamarans that cost substantially more and sail substantially less.
