A single Ilmor engine is all the NXT20 needs to keep a boat full of riders happy.
The Ilmor 6.0 litre MPI drives her to a 36 mph top speed and settles to a smooth 25 mph for cruising, enough pace for wakeboarding, skiing or simply covering ground between anchorages. An inboard V drive keeps the weight low and central over the propeller, which matters more to wake quality than horsepower alone. The surf system is switch operated from the dash rather than manually shifted ballast, letting a rider choose either side of the wake in seconds, and it shares its hardware with the Gen 2 surf system fitted to Master Craft’s larger X Series boats.
She reads as a Master Craft from fifty metres out, not a scaled down imitation of one.
Her hull uses the same glass construction as every other boat in the range, so stepping up to a larger Master Craft later is a step up in space, not in philosophy. The in-house design team has kept the lines clean and current, with a low, planing profile that sits purposeful at rest and settles flat underway. At 6.1 metres long and 2.5 metres in the beam, she is compact enough to trailer behind a mid-size vehicle and simple enough to dock without a second pair of hands, without ever reading as a budget boat from the water.
Everything a first season of water sports needs is already fitted.
GPS based speed control, a digital dash display and a built in cooler all come as standard, removing the guesswork that normally complicates a first year of towed water sports. Up to eleven guests can come aboard for the day, with seating and storage built into the cockpit rather than added as an afterthought. The helm is laid out for a new driver, with clean instrumentation and surf controls close enough to reach without leaving the wheel. None of it feels stripped back. It simply keeps the boat focused on what a value class model is for: time on the water rather than time learning the controls.
A shallow draught does more for her range of use than any fuel figure.
At 0.7 metres she draughts shallow enough to work rivers and skinny coves that a deeper keelboat would have to avoid altogether, which matters more to a ski boat’s everyday range than outright miles. With 167 litres of fuel on board she is rated for 150 nautical miles, plenty for a full day on the water with margin to spare, and the shallow hull keeps consumption modest even when loaded with eleven guests and full ballast. It is a boat built around a lake weekend or a short coastal run, not long passages, and every figure on her spec sheet reflects that brief.
The NXT20 is the easiest Master Craft to own, not the most expensive.
She measures 6.1 metres in length on a 2.5 metre beam, with a hull built to the same standard as the rest of the range and finished by Master Craft’s own design and engineering teams. As the brand’s first value class model, she opened the door to buyers who wanted genuine Master Craft handling without the equipment list of the flagship boats, and she still does. For a first boat, a second boat for the family, or simply the most straightforward way into serious wakeboarding and skiing, she earns her place in the range on usefulness rather than on spectacle.
