Twin IPS500 engines do the heavy lifting, and they do it quietly.
Volvo Penta’s pod drives give the 42 FLY a cruising speed of 23 knots and a top end of 30 knots, with joystick steering that turns tight quarter berthing into a non event. An optional upgrade to IPS600 adds more top end punch for owners who want it. Fuel capacity runs to 1,270 litres, supporting a cruising range of around 350 nautical miles, enough for a run along the coast and back without a second thought about the tank gauge. The hull tracks true at speed and settles quickly off the throttle, the kind of composed handling that matters more on a family weekend than any outright number.
An open air atrium carries the eye, and the breeze, straight through the boat.
Large expanses of glass and a flybridge seating area designed around entertaining give the 42 FLY an unusually airy feel for her size. The foredeck lounge converts between an upright backrest, a flat sunpad and a full daybed, adapting to however the day is going. A teak step and rail staircase links flybridge to cockpit cleanly, and the aft galley counter ties the saloon to the aft deck so that cooking, dining and lounging all happen within sight of each other. Regal’s in house design team has clearly prioritised connection between spaces over enclosed, formal rooms.
Two cabins, four berths, and a beam put to proper use.
The aft master stateroom runs a king size bed with full walkaround access, a settee, a cedar lined armoire and its own head. Forward, the second cabin uses the 4 metre beam for an island queen berth with walkaround space either side and drawer storage built into the base. Day capacity reaches twelve guests, making the 42 FLY as comfortable hosting a lunch party as it is sleeping a family of four overnight. Finishes mix timber, vinyl and fabric in a palette chosen for durability as much as looks, suited to a boat that will see regular use rather than sit at the dock.
The flybridge is where the 42 FLY spends most of her day, and it shows in the detail.
Double wide captain’s and companion seats sit alongside an aft L shaped settee and table, with room at the helm for a full navigation suite. A sliding mechanism between saloon and aft deck reduces reliance on doors, so the two spaces read as one when the weather allows. Down below, the galley sits forward of the saloon with modern appliances suited to proper meal preparation rather than snacks alone. With one crew berth accounted for, the layout works equally well owner driven or lightly crewed.
A straightforward specification, and a price that reflects it.
The 42 FLY measures 12.9 metres on a 4 metre beam, with a 1.1 metre draught that keeps shallower anchorages within reach. Built in GRP by Regal’s own engineering department, she is priced from 580,000 euros new. Twin IPS500 power, four berths across two cabins and day capacity for twelve make her a credible all rounder for an owner moving up from a smaller boat or looking for a single yacht that covers both day trips and weekends away without asking for a second vessel alongside her.
