Volvo Penta’s Forward Drive places the dual propellers ahead of the lower unit, tucked beneath the hull rather than hanging behind the transom. It allows a trim range a conventional sterndrive cannot match, which shapes the surf wave and smooths the ride at cruise in equal measure. She holds a 30 knot cruise and reaches 43 knots at the top end, genuinely sporting figures for a boat built around watersports rather than outright speed. A 150 nautical mile range keeps a full day of surfing, towing and cruising within reach of a single tank.
Regal built the LS2 around its FasTrac running surface, the hull it rates as its best.
The Surf version keeps that FasTrac shape but has been refined specifically to cut down spray at speed, work carried out alongside the addition of the ballast tanks and trim tabs that create the wake. At 6.8 metres with a 2.5 metre beam, she stays easy to trailer and launch while still carrying genuine sports boat lines, a squared off bow and a low, planted stance at rest. The result reads as a dedicated watersports boat rather than a bowrider with surf equipment bolted on as an afterthought.

Double wide seats for the captain and mate fold flat to join the U-shaped bench behind them, turning the cockpit into a single social space the moment the boat stops moving. Fuel capacity sits at 212 litres, enough for a full morning of surfing, an afternoon of towing and the cruise home without a refuelling stop. Ballast for the surf system totals 1,800 lb when both aft bags and the ski locker bladder are full, and it empties out for cruising once the surfing is done, so the same tank of fuel is not spent fighting unnecessary weight on the way back to the dock. It is a boat designed around a single day’s use, and every system on board, fuel included, is sized accordingly.

Two surf tabs, developed with Wake Worx and tuned to Regal’s own specification, work with the forward facing propulsion and the ballast tanks to build a wave on either side of the boat. All three systems, tabs, ballast and drive trim, are controlled from touchscreen displays at the helm, so the driver can adjust the wave without leaving the wheel. Regal’s own in house team is behind the hull and the Surf System alike, keeping the engineering of the boat and the watersports equipment on it a single, coherent piece of design rather than two separate products bolted together.
