Forty five knots at the top, and a wave that holds its shape behind her.
Volvo Penta’s Forward Drive sits at the heart of the LS6 Surf’s performance, moving the propellers ahead of the drive leg and under the hull rather than behind it. That keeps them well clear of a rider on a board and shifts the boat’s pivot point forward, giving sharper, more direct handling through a turn. A ballast system floods compartments in the stern and forward sections to load the hull for surfing, while electric trim and a pair of transom mounted surf tabs refine the wave’s size and shape to suit a rider’s preference. The standard 350hp Volvo V8 cruises at 25 knots and tops out at 45, with 380 and 430hp options for owners who want sharper acceleration out of the hole.
She reads as sporty rather than showy, built around function rather than flourish.
Regal’s FasTrac hull combines a deep V forward section with a mid beam step, a shape the yard says lets air into the running surface to lift fuel economy and performance even with a modest standard engine. A Power Tower rises and lowers quickly without crowding the helm when folded flat for the garage or a low bridge, and a Bimini top fitted with dedicated sleeves keeps surfboards stowed overhead rather than cluttering the cockpit. The result is a silhouette that stays low and purposeful at rest and settles cleanly onto the water underway, with nothing applied for effect that is not also doing a job.
Ten guests fit easily, and almost everyone can face the wave.
A cockpit widened by some fifteen centimetres lets seating run gunwale to gunwale, and twin benches convert into wide helm and passenger seats with backrests that pivot to face forward or aft as the moment demands. Aft, the UltraLounge pairs two sun pad style benches either side of a centre walkway that runs through to the swim platform, with a hinged section that folds into an extra rumble seat when the crowd grows. Stainless grab handles, deep foam cushions and roughly two metres of storage beneath each bench keep the cockpit tidy, while the bow holds its own storage, grab handles and USB charging built into the inwales.
A head compartment at this size is rare. Regal gives her one anyway.
Tucked into the port console, a dedicated head with a standard chemical toilet, with pump out and electric flush available as upgrades, is the kind of detail that matters on a boat that will spend whole days anchored off a beach. The bow cockpit is deep and genuinely usable rather than decorative, with its own storage and grab handles for guests moving forward underway. Twin 9 inch touchscreens at the helm run Volvo Penta’s Water Sport Control, handling speed, ballast and tab settings alongside audio and navigation, and can store presets for up to three riders so the boat remembers each guest’s preferred wave.
Every surf feature on board answers to the same two touchscreens.
Forward Drive, the ballast pumps, the surf tabs and the electric trim are all managed through Volvo Penta’s Glass Cockpit system, which also carries engine data, navigation and audio on a pair of 9 inch displays at the helm. Regal’s engineering department tuned the surf tabs specifically to the LS6’s hull rather than fitting an off the shelf part, and the ballast pumps fill and empty quickly enough to switch from wakesurfing to open cruising within minutes. It is a boat that asks very little technical knowledge of its owner: the complexity sits behind the glass, and the controls in front of it stay simple.
