At 22.82 metres the Predator 74 is the biggest boat in the range, and the specification reads accordingly: 45,300 kilograms, a 5.38 metre beam, 4,800 litres of fuel and twin MAN V12s on shafts at either 1550 or 1900PS a side. The larger package takes it to 40 knots, which is a considerable figure for a yacht of this displacement.
Shaft drives are the point here. At this size the driveline choice is about sustained high-speed running and load carrying rather than low-speed manoeuvring, and the 74 was built for owners who use the performance. Range is 330 nautical miles at 21 knots.
Accommodation is three cabins as standard with a fourth available, and three heads. Fresh water is 800 litres.
Two generations carry the 74 name and they are not interchangeable. The boat described here is the later series, distinguishable by its 74 foot 10 inch length and 6 foot draft; the earlier 73 foot boats are lighter, faster on paper and trade at roughly half the money. That gap is the single most important thing to establish before comparing listings.
Current asking prices for the later boat run from just under two million to a little under three, with location driving much of the difference. Boats offered in the United States sit at the top of that band.
