She sails the way a 33 metre carbon composite hull should: fast, composed and startlingly easy to helm alone.
Sea trials in an 11 to 14 knot breeze produced consistent double digit boat speeds, with close hauled runs at 25 degrees apparent matching wind strength almost knot for knot, and early trials reaching into the low twenties on a fetch. Twin rudders hold her line through the turns, and hydraulic Magic Trim rams, first developed by Wally in 1998, let one person manage sails that would otherwise need a full crew on the winches. Under power, a 425hp Cummins engine gives a 10 knot cruise and 12 knot maximum, useful for the windless stretches between anchorages. A telescopic keel extends her draught from a standard 4.5 metres to 6.8 metres in open water, then retracts again for shallower harbours.
Her lines borrow the reverse sheer and overhanging transom of Wally’s racing history and stretch them into something built for distance.
Judel/Vrolijk drew the hull, extending the mould first developed for the Y3K custom cruiser racer aft to add volume without losing her performance shape. High bulwarks and bare carbon detailing, set against teak decking, keep the profile lean, while the wide transom lowers freeboard and adds speed rather than just show. Wally and Santa Maria Magnolfi shaped the deck plan around a genuinely new idea for a boat this fast: an 80 square metre cockpit, fully separated from the sailing systems, secured with fitted cushions so guests can sit facing outboard rather than braced against a heel. It reads as a performance yacht from every angle, and lives as a cruising one.
Below decks she settles into the calm of a raised saloon rather than the clutter of a racing interior.
Santa Maria Magnolfi’s interior uses light veneers, neutral fabrics and clear coat carbon soles to keep the mood restrained. The owner’s cabin sits forward, with three further guest cabins, or an extended owner’s suite in their place, sleeping up to eight guests across four cabins in total. A raised saloon seats eight for dinner and borrows the full 7.6 metre beam to feel wider than her length suggests. Crew live and work apart from guests entirely, reached by their own companionway with a chart table, a U shaped galley and their own mess, keeping service out of sight.
Everything that makes her fast is hidden, and everything hidden is doubled up.
Hydraulic Magic Trim rams handle the mainsail and self tacking jib below deck, fed by a 125 litre hydraulic reservoir that also powers the winches and the telescopic keel. Twin 27kW generators cover hotel loads or hydraulics as needed, and load cells monitor the rig in real time so trim stays accurate rather than guessed. Major systems throughout the engine room are run in duplicate, a standard Wally has held to since it first introduced hydraulic trim systems in the late 1990s. Dual carbon quadrants share the load on the twin rudders, and a well appointed lazarette garage, sealed behind a watertight bulkhead, stows a tender and the usual water toys clear of the guest areas above.
She is Wally’s most complete argument yet for a yacht that sails properly and lives well.
Built in carbon composite and measuring 33.4 metres on a 7.6 metre beam, she displaces 69.8 tonnes and carries 4,500 litres of fuel for a 2,000 nautical mile range under power. Naval architecture comes from Judel/Vrolijk & Co, with Wally and Santa Maria Magnolfi responsible for exterior and interior design, and Wally’s own engineering department behind the systems that make her easy to sail short handed. She accommodates up to fifteen guests by day and eight overnight across four cabins, with three permanent crew. Priced from around €10,000,000 as a new build, she sits at the accessible end of Wally’s semi custom range, an entry point into three decades of the yard’s performance pedigree rather than a compromise on it.
