She is built to a performance formula Wally has refined for three decades, sized up rather than diluted.
A 530hp Cummins engine gives a 12 knot cruise and 15 knot maximum under power, useful reach between anchorages when the wind drops. Below the waterline, a retractable keel switches between a deep performance setting and a shallow draught mode for coastal work, while a variable pitch propeller folds flat to cut drag once she is under sail. The same hidden hydraulic Magic Trim system proven on the Wally Wind 110 handles the self tacking jib and mainsail here too, so trimming a sail plan built for a 40 metre hull stays a one person job rather than a full crew exercise.
Her silhouette is built around a single idea: lift the saloon without losing the deck.
A low profile, glass set coachroof runs forward with curved panes set into carbon ribs, giving the interior light and height while keeping her overall profile lean from a distance. Twin helm stations sit within raised bulwarks, sheltering the crew at the wheel without interrupting the flow of the deck around them. A hydraulic passerelle folds out from the transom for stern to quay arrivals, and an underwater anchor launching system keeps ground tackle out of sight when she is under way. Judel/Vrolijk’s hull carries the performance intent through every line, proportioned for speed rather than volume alone.
The coachroof is where she spends most of her time: saloon, dining and views in one raised space.
Carbon ribs frame curved glass on both sides, so the main saloon and dining area sit above deck level with an outlook rare on a yacht built to actually sail. Luca Bassani and Santa Maria Magnolfi have kept the interior configurable, letting an owner adjust the layout around fixed points: a master suite standard aft, and cabin space for up to eight guests overnight. By day, shaded deck seating extends that capacity to twenty, making her as capable at anchor with a full guest list as she is under sail with a smaller crew.
At 40 metres she is built to go the distance, not just look fast standing still.
A 9,000 litre fuel capacity gives a 2,000 nautical mile range under power, matched by 4.4 metres of draught that balances open water stability with access to a wider spread of harbours than a deeper fixed keel would allow. Displacement of 138.5 tonnes reflects genuine bluewater construction rather than a lightweight day sailor scaled up, and the retractable keel’s shallow setting extends that reach into anchorages a fixed draught alone could not manage. It is a yacht built for owners planning real passages, not just afternoons on the water.
The Wally Wind 130 Project is Wally’s mid range answer for an owner ready to move up from the 110 without moving away from what makes it work.
She measures 40 metres on an 8.6 metre beam, with a 4.4 metre draught and a 530hp Cummins engine as standard. Naval architecture comes from Judel/Vrolijk & Co, exterior and interior design from Luca Bassani and Santa Maria Magnolfi, and engineering from Wally’s own department. She sleeps eight guests across four cabins, seats up to twenty by day, and carries four crew. Available as a newbuild project from around €15,000,000, she sits between the 110 and the flagship 150, offering the yard’s full performance and design language at a size built as much for entertaining as for passage making.
