Wally Wind 150 Project Yacht Review

At close to 46 metres, the Wally Wind 150 Project is Wally’s flagship sailing yacht, and she carries the pedigree to prove it. She is a direct evolution of the Wally 144 Kauris IV, one of the yard’s most admired launches, scaled up and reworked around an idea most sailing yachts her size cannot offer: an owner’s cockpit set at the water’s edge, private and apart from the rest of the deck. That single feature reframes what a flagship performance sailing yacht can be. A tender well recessed into the foredeck converts to a lounge once the toys are away, a lower deck owner’s terrace extends living space towards the sea, and the same double deck coachroof and Magic Trim engineering proven across the Wally Wind range scale up to a 45.7 metre hull. For an owner who wants the largest, most capable yacht in Wally’s current sailing line, with a genuine design lineage behind her, the 150 Project is the answer.
On Board

Life on the Wally Wind 150 centres on a space few sailing yachts offer at all: an owner’s cockpit set almost at the waterline.

Private and separated from the guest and crew areas above, it puts an owner closer to the sea than the raised decks typical of a yacht this size usually allow. A lower deck terrace extends that connection further, opening living space directly towards the water. Forward, a tender well recesses into the foredeck and converts to a lounge once the toys are stowed, freeing deck space for entertaining rather than leaving it dedicated to equipment. Twin helm stations, set within raised bulwarks as across the Wally Wind range, keep the crew sheltered without interrupting the flow between these spaces.

Design & Lines

She reads as the natural conclusion of a design language Wally has been refining since the Wally 144 Kauris IV.

Judel/Vrolijk & Co’s naval architecture stretches that pedigree to 45.7 metres on a 9.2 metre beam, while Luca Bassani and Santa Maria Magnolfi carry the low profile, glass set coachroof through in carbon ribs and curved panes, lifting the saloon without adding visible bulk to her profile. A hydraulic passerelle folds from the transom, and an underwater anchor launching system keeps ground tackle concealed at the bow. Every line still answers to performance first, a discipline carried up from the smaller Wally Wind hulls rather than set aside for size.

Interior & Accommodation

Five cabins and a genuine owner’s floor make her the most accommodating yacht in the Wally Wind range so far.

Luca Bassani and Santa Maria Magnolfi’s interior sleeps up to ten guests across five cabins, with the coachroof’s raised saloon and dining area bringing natural light deep into the accommodation. By day, shaded deck seating extends capacity to twenty, so she scales comfortably between an intimate cruise and a full guest list. Five crew run the yacht from spaces kept separate from guest accommodation throughout, consistent with the crew and guest separation established on the smaller Wally Wind 110, now applied across a considerably larger footprint.

Engineering

At 187 tonnes, she needs more engineering discipline than her smaller sisters, not less.

A 660hp Caterpillar C12 engine drives a 12 knot cruise and 15 knot maximum under power, with 16,000 litres of fuel giving a 3,000 nautical mile range, the longest reach in the Wally Wind line. A retractable keel switches between a deep performance setting and a shallow draught mode from her standard 4.5 metres, and a variable pitch propeller folds to cut drag once under sail. The same hidden hydraulic Magic Trim rams that let one person handle the Wally Wind 110’s rig scale up here, keeping a sail plan sized for a 45.7 metre hull manageable short handed.

Ownership & Specification

The Wally Wind 150 Project is the clearest statement yet of what Wally’s semi custom sailing range can deliver at full scale.

She measures 45.7 metres on a 9.2 metre beam, displaces 187 tonnes and carries a 660hp Caterpillar C12 engine as standard. Naval architecture comes from Judel/Vrolijk & Co, exterior and interior design from Luca Bassani and Santa Maria Magnolfi, and engineering from Wally’s own department, the same team behind every yacht in the range. She sleeps ten guests across five cabins, seats twenty by day and carries five crew. Available as a newbuild project from around €35,000,000, she stands as the flagship of a line built on a single idea: performance and comfort do not have to compete.
