About C2

Most 33-metre charter yachts cruise at twelve knots. C2 cruises at twenty-one and tops out at twenty-five. That is the whole argument for her, and it is not a small one: on a week in the Balearics it converts a passage between islands from an afternoon into an hour, which changes what an itinerary can contain rather than merely how fast it is covered.

She is a Mangusta GranSport 33, launched by Overmarine at the end of summer 2022 and still presenting as new. The speed comes from four 1,000hp Volvo Penta pod drives – 4,000hp on a 228-tonne hull – and, unusually for a fast boat, it does not cost her the ride. The hull is a long, fine-entry planing form and she carries powerful stabilisers, so the motion stays flat at cruise and at anchor. Fuel burn at 21 knots is 550 litres an hour, which for this performance is modest.

What the GranSport platform buys beyond speed is volume. The main saloon is glazed floor to ceiling with full-height sliding doors aft, so the lounge and dining room read as one bright space open on three sides. Furnishing is pale oak, cream leather and teal accents; indirect lighting runs the length of the ceiling coves. It feels like an outdoor room with the climate turned down.

The master takes the full width of the forward main deck – rare at this size, and the single strongest feature on board. It carries a study desk, a sofa, his-and-hers bathrooms, a television set into the deckhead above the bed, and windows down both sides with electric blinds. Four further cabins sit below: a double, two convertible twin/double cabins and a further guest cabin, all with shower rooms en suite, sleeping ten in total.

Outside she has three separate social decks. The foredeck carries a broad sun pad and a glass-fronted jacuzzi deep enough to stand in, with an awning the crew can rig for shade. The sun deck holds a dining table under the hardtop, a cocktail bar and a second lounge. The main deck aft cockpit is the third, directly off the saloon and a step above the water. On a 33-metre, having three genuinely separate places to sit is not the norm.

The beach club at the stern opens on hydraulic stairs that fold down to the water, with the toy store behind: a waverunner, two SeaBobs, two eFoils, paddleboards, a wakeboard, waterskis and an anti-jellyfish pool for guests who prefer the sea contained.

She cruises Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca and is fully licensed for charter in Spanish waters, which is the practical requirement for working the Balearics properly rather than skirting them. Six crew look after ten guests.

C2 is a specific proposition rather than a general one. If the week is about covering ground – three islands, a long lunch on each, back for dinner – she does something a displacement yacht of the same length simply cannot. If it is about staying put, she is still a very comfortable place to do it.
