Kos boasts some of the finest beaches in the Dodecanese, with long stretches of golden sand and clear, shallow water ideal for swimming and watersports. The surrounding coastline offers sheltered bays and easy access to neighbouring islands such as Nisyros, Kalymnos and Pserimos.

With its ancient sites, beautiful beaches and clear water, Kos is a rewarding and historic destination. Guests can explore its remarkable antiquities, relax on golden sands and enjoy the warm sunshine and clear seas of the southern Aegean.

Green and welcoming, with a relaxed atmosphere and a wealth of things to see, Kos rewards guests with an appealing blend of culture, beach life and easy island cruising.

Kos Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Kos, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to charter around Kos?

May through October covers the main season, with July and August the hottest months and also the busiest for the meltemi along the island’s north coast. Kefalos Bay and the south coast stay more sheltered when the wind builds, making them useful fallback anchorages in high summer. June and September bring warm, swimmable water with noticeably quieter beaches and marinas.

How far is Kos Airport from the main harbour?

Kos International Airport, known as Hippocrates Airport (KGS), sits around 24 kilometres southwest of Kos Town near the village of Antimachia. It’s a drive of roughly 30 to 40 minutes along the Kos-Kefalos road. The island receives frequent seasonal flights from across Europe, making it one of the easier Dodecanese islands to join a charter from directly.

Which anchorage is best for a night at Kos?

Kamari Bay, near Kefalos, is a favourite for its clear, sheltered water and proximity to a handful of good tavernas ashore. Kardamena and Mastichari offer livelier alternatives closer to the island’s main resorts. In a strong meltemi, the south coast around Kefalos generally holds calmer water than anchorages further east toward Psalidi.

How many days should we plan for Kos?

Two to three nights allow time to see the Asklepion, wander Kos Town’s castle and old quarter, and still get out to a beach day at Kamari or Tigaki. As one of the larger, more accessible Dodecanese islands, Kos also works well as a base for day trips to Nisyros, Kalymnos or Pserimos.

What is the Plane Tree of Hippocrates?

It’s a huge, centuries-old plane tree standing beside Kos Town’s harbour castle, long associated with Hippocrates by local tradition, though the current tree is now generally dated to a few hundred rather than two and a half thousand years old. Its enormous, hollowed trunk is propped on stone and metal supports today. Whatever its exact age, it remains one of the most photographed spots in Kos Town.
