About R.M.F

The best room on R.M.F has no windows. It is the beach club, at sea level in the stern, and its ceiling is the bottom of the swimming pool one deck above, a sheet of structural glass that throws moving light across the sofas all afternoon and turns anyone swimming overhead into a silhouette. Sanlorenzo has been building the 52Steel since 2018 and this is the detail the line is known for. It is also the rare piece of yacht design that is more impressive in person than in the brochure.

Delivered in 2022, she is a full-displacement steel yacht with an aluminium superstructure, drawn by Sanlorenzo with interiors by Officina Italiana Design. The look is warm and low-contrast: pale limed oak, cream upholstery and a run of ochre and mustard accents that recur from the saloon to the cabins. Nothing shouts. The overall effect is closer to a contemporary house on the coast than to a hotel, which is the point.

At sea level she opens up properly. Terraces fold out either side of the beach club, the platform drops at the stern, and a floodable garage launches the seven-metre limousine tender without anyone having to crane anything. The toy list is unusually good for the size: a Sacs Rebel 50 chase boat comes with the charter, a 36-foot tow tender runs alongside, and a 5.7-metre slide drops from the upper deck for anyone who would rather not use the steps.

Her outdoor living is arranged over three levels and each has its own character. The main deck aft holds the pool, glass-bottomed and long enough to swim in rather than just cool off, with sunpads down both sides. The upper deck is the social one, a bar under a timber soffit, a low table and deep corner seating, open on three sides. The sundeck above is the quiet one, with a long run of sunpads and shade when you want it.

Inside, the main saloon runs almost the full length of the main deck, arranged in two halves: armchairs and a games table forward, a long sofa aft, and glazing that pulls the coastline into the room. The sky lounge is smaller and darker by design, with a screen and a glass wall through to the deck, the room that gets used after dinner. Both are finished in the same pale timber, so moving between them feels continuous rather than jarring.

Five cabins sleep ten. The master is wide and low-lit, with the bed set against a padded headboard wall and desks either side. A guest suite adds a study and a glass-walled bathroom, and a twin sits forward with two full berths and a shared console. With ten guests to five cabins there is no doubling up and no compromise cabin, which is unusual and worth noting.

A crew of twelve runs her, deliberately more than the size demands. She spends her summer on the French Riviera and winters at La Spezia, with rates from €294,000 per week. For a group of ten who want a genuinely new yacht with one memorable idea at the heart of it, she is hard to argue with.
