Sixty metres is the point where a motor yacht stops feeling like a large boat and starts behaving like a private ship. At close to one hundred and ninety seven feet, these hulls carry four decks, a crew of fourteen to eighteen and enough displacement to cross the Atlantic without the itinerary ever being a question of weather.
Volume is what the extra ten metres over a fifty buys. Almost every yacht in this group sleeps twelve guests, but in six or seven cabins rather than five, which means a full beam master on its own deck, two equal VIPs and space for a spa, a cinema and a beach club that opens on three sides. Benetti, Amels and Feadship dominate the steel displacement end, while Heesen, Turquoise and Oceanco offer lighter hulls that hold sixteen knots.
Weekly rates across the sixty metre motor fleet run from around two hundred and fifty thousand euros to four hundred and seventy five thousand, with the median close to three hundred and fifty thousand. A few older hulls charter nearer one hundred thousand and the newest deliveries reach six hundred and eighty. Add an advance provisioning allowance of roughly thirty percent for fuel, food, berthing and drinks.
