The seven Aeolian Islands rise from the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily, each a different expression of volcanic Italy. At this level, charter yachts are ultra-premium superyachts of 65 metres and above with specialist crews of twelve or more, designed to operate as a private resort in waters where fewer and fewer yachts reach this standard.
The Aeolians sit roughly 25 nautical miles from Milazzo on Sicily’s northeast coast. Lipari anchors the archipelago with its pumice-white cliffs and lively harbour; Panarea draws the summer social set; Salina rewards guests with Malvasia wine and outstanding capers; Vulcano offers volcanic hot springs; and Stromboli provides the singular experience of watching an active crater erupt from the water at night.
At 250,000 euros per week, the advance provisioning allowance of around 75,000 euros covers unlimited fuelling, private chef provisions and exclusive port arrangements on Panarea and Lipari. Unspent funds are returned at the voyage end.
A small number of vessels operate in this range globally. July and August dates are often committed a year in advance. The Tyrrhenian’s light winds and the archipelago’s compact geography suit ultra-large superyachts well, with stabilised passages and helicopter access further extending the range of each day.
