Corsica’s western coast, with its sheltered gulfs, sandy beaches, and calm summer anchorages, is one of the Mediterranean’s best destinations for a family charter. Ajaccio sits at the northern end of its own wide gulf, well protected from the prevailing north-westerly and offering the easiest superyacht access on the island’s western shore. From here a family yacht can reach quiet beaches south of the city within minutes, or extend the itinerary to the Gulf of Valinco, Propriano and the remote coves near Roccapina in a relaxed three-day passage.
Family charter yachts available in this region carry between eight and fourteen guests, with cabin configurations that allow parents, children and possibly grandparents to each have their own space. Motor yachts with beach clubs and watertoy sets are the most popular choice for families with younger children. Larger sailing yachts with twin catamaran hulls offer stability and wide deck space for those who prefer a sailing experience. Crews of four to eight include a chef, a dedicated steward for children, and often a water sports instructor.
Weekly charter rates for family-capable yachts from Ajaccio run from around 30,000 euros for a compact 35-metre motor yacht to 220,000 euros for a 55-metre vessel with a full beach club setup. Corsica imposes a transit tax on charter yachts in French territorial waters, currently applied per person per day. Your broker will include this in the cost estimate, but it is worth factoring in early for larger groups.
