Marmaris occupies a vast natural harbour at the junction of the Aegean and the Mediterranean, ringed by pine-forested hills and guarded by a Crusader castle on the headland. It is one of the most sheltered charter bases on the Turkish coastline and the departure point for itineraries that cover the Datca peninsula, the Bozburun inlets and the fjord-like bays around Gocek. A 40 metre crewed charter yacht puts that geography to full use, offering five or six guest cabins, multiple deck levels and the beam to carry a substantial water sports platform without compromising interior volume.
The Turkish charter fleet at this length is predominantly motor-driven, built between 2010 and the early 2020s. Outdoor living defines every design: forward sun decks for morning use, aft terraces for dinner and drop-down bathing platforms that give effortless access to the clear turquoise water.
Weekly rates for a 40 metre yacht from Marmaris run from around 60,000 to 120,000 euros in high season. The advance provisioning allowance covers fuel, food, berthing and water sports, adding 25 to 30 per cent to the base fee. Shoulder months in May, June and September offer comparable sailing conditions at more competitive prices.
From Marmaris the cruising territory is outstanding. The Bozburun peninsula, Gocek bay, the Datca headland and Cleopatra Island are all within easy reach on a week-long charter.
