Phinisi yachts and Myanmar share a natural affinity. The traditional Indonesian schooner, built in the Bugis shipbuilding tradition of South Sulawesi, is at home in the warm, shallow anchorages and narrow passes of Southeast Asian island groups, and the Mergui Archipelago is among the finest such groups on earth. The phinisi fleet available for Myanmar consists of traditionally built wooden vessels ranging from 20 to 45 metres, with interiors that blend Indonesian craft with the comforts expected of a private charter. Guest capacities range from six to twelve in three to six cabins, and crew numbers are typically high relative to yacht size, ensuring attentive and knowledgeable service.
Weekly rates begin at approximately 45,000 Euros and can reach 390,000 Euros for larger, more luxuriously appointed vessels. The advance provisioning allowance, around 30 percent, covers fuel, provisions, permits for Lampi Marine National Park, and local guide fees.
The northeast monsoon from November through April brings the most reliable conditions. Flat seas in the protected channels of the southern Mergui give way to open-water passages with good breeze on the northern routes.
