A phinisi is an Indonesian sailing vessel, two masted and gaff rigged, built of ironwood and teak by the Konjo shipwrights of South Sulawesi. The hull is still shaped by eye on the beaches at Tanah Beru and Bira without formal drawings, and a naval architect becomes involved only afterwards. The charter examples are purpose built to yacht standard, with modern systems concealed inside a genuinely traditional shape.
We charter six phinisi, from forty eight metres to sixty five, with the median near fifty. LAMIMA, at sixty five metres, is the largest sailing phinisi in the world. Silolona, Amandira, Otium, Prana by Atzaro and Bhavana complete the fleet. All six are rigged to sail rather than to motor with masts, and all six are set up for diving, with compressors, tenders and guides who know the sites personally. Cabins are timber lined and open onto the deck rather than sealed away from it.
Weekly rates run from roughly ninety four thousand euros to one hundred and eighty nine thousand, with the median close to one hundred and thirty one thousand, plus an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent. Budget separately for marine park permits in Raja Ampat and Komodo, and for the domestic flights to the embarkation point, which is rarely the same airport twice.
The seasons are unusually clean. Raja Ampat and the Banda Sea from October to April, Komodo and the Lesser Sundas from April to September, with Bali as the practical hinge. Tell us your dates and we will match them to the right archipelago.
