May through September brings the most reliable Mediterranean weather for the short hop along the coast from Nice or Monaco, though Èze’s summit gets crowded with day-trippers arriving by coach through the middle of the day even outside the height of summer. Visiting the village in the early morning or arranging an evening anchorage off Èze-sur-Mer for a dinner at the Château de la Chèvre d’Or avoids the busiest hours while keeping the same views.
Èze-sur-Mer sits directly below the perched village, reachable from an anchorage in minutes by tender, with the climb up on foot taking around thirty minutes on the road or closer to ninety on the more scenic but steeper Nietzsche Path. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, roughly 15 kilometres away, is the nearest gateway for guests joining or leaving a charter here, and Èze sits conveniently between Nice and Monaco for a coastal itinerary combining both.
Èze itself has no harbour, so charters typically anchor off Èze-sur-Mer or choose one of the sheltered coves nearby, such as Plage de la Mala toward Cap-d’Ail or Paloma Beach and Plage de Passable on the Cap Ferrat side, all within a short cruise. None of these offer extensive protection from a strong southerly swell, so captains keep an eye on the forecast and are ready to reposition toward Villefranche-sur-Mer’s deeper, more sheltered bay if conditions turn.
Half a day is enough to walk the village, visit the Jardin Exotique and stop at a perfumery, making Èze a natural half-day excursion rather than an overnight stop on most itineraries. Guests who want to hike the Nietzsche Path up from Èze-sur-Mer should allow closer to a full morning or afternoon given the steep 366-metre climb. Most charters pair Èze with Monaco or Villefranche-sur-Mer on the same day, since both sit within easy cruising distance.
The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche stayed near Èze over the winter of 1883 to 1884 and regularly walked the steep coastal path now named after him between Èze-sur-Mer and the village; he later credited the experience with helping inspire the third part of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, though the surviving record points to the walk shaping his thinking rather than the text being drafted on the path itself. The trail remains open today as one of the region’s best-known hikes.
