Pylos Superyacht Charter

Pylos is one of the most picturesque and historic towns of the southwestern Peloponnese, a beautiful harbour set on the vast and sheltered Bay of Navarino. Framed by Venetian and Ottoman castles and blessed with clear water and golden beaches, it offers a rewarding blend of history and natural beauty.

The town itself is a charming amphitheatre of whitewashed houses rising around a pretty central square and harbour, watched over by an imposing hilltop fortress. The great Bay of Navarino, scene of a decisive naval battle in the Greek War of Independence, is one of the finest natural harbours in the Mediterranean.

Nearby lies the famous Voidokilia beach, a perfect crescent of golden sand and turquoise water widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in Greece, along with a protected lagoon rich in birdlife. The surrounding coastline offers clear coves and sheltered anchorages in abundance.

Ashore, the region is rich in history, with the ancient Palace of Nestor and beautiful castles to explore, along with excellent local cuisine and warm hospitality. Its blend of beauty and heritage is deeply appealing.

With its beautiful bay, historic castles and golden beaches, Pylos is a jewel of the southern Peloponnese. Guests can anchor in a magnificent natural harbour, swim at spectacular beaches and enjoy the rich history and clear waters of this beautiful corner of Greece.

Pylos Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Pylos, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to charter around Pylos?

May through September offers the most settled weather, and Navarino Bay’s near-total enclosure by land makes it one of the calmer anchorages on the Messinian coast even when wind picks up further out. July and August are warmest and busiest, while June and September combine pleasant swimming temperatures with quieter beaches at Voidokilia and around Gialova.

How do you reach Pylos by air?

Kalamata International Airport is the nearest, around 45 kilometres and roughly an hour’s drive from Pylos, with seasonal flights from several European cities as well as connections from Athens. Many charter guests fly into Kalamata and either transfer overland or join their yacht already cruising the Messinian coast, since Pylos sits within easy reach of Methoni and Koroni further south.

Where's the best place to anchor at Pylos?

The main anchorage inside Navarino Bay, close to Pylos town and beneath Niokastro, offers reliable shelter and easy access to the town’s restaurants. Voidokilia, on the bay’s northern side, is better suited to a daytime stop for swimming and a walk up to Paleokastro rather than an overnight, given its proximity to the protected lagoon. Gialova, tucked into the same bay, provides a quieter alternative closer to the wetland.

How many days should we spend at Pylos?

Two nights let guests properly combine the town itself, a swim at Voidokilia, a walk up to Paleokastro and a half-day trip inland to the Palace of Nestor without rushing. Pylos also makes a natural stop on a wider Messinian itinerary, sitting comfortably between Kalamata to the north and Methoni and Koroni a short sail south along the coast.

What happened at the Battle of Navarino?

On the 20th of October 1827, an allied fleet from Britain, France and Russia sailed into Navarino Bay and, in the space of a few hours, destroyed most of the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet anchored there, a decisive moment in the Greek War of Independence. It is often described as the last major naval battle fought entirely by ships under sail. Niokastro’s museum in Pylos tells the full story, and the wrecks still lie on the seabed of the bay.
