Guadeloupe Superyacht Charter

Guadeloupe is one of the most beautiful and varied islands in the eastern Caribbean, a French archipelago whose two main islands, shaped like a butterfly, offer a wonderful contrast of lush rainforest and golden beaches. Combining French sophistication with tropical beauty, it is a rewarding and colourful cruising destination.

The island of Basse-Terre is dominated by a spectacular national park of dense rainforest, waterfalls and the towering volcano of La Soufrière, offering superb hiking and dramatic natural beauty. Its sister island, Grande-Terre, offers rolling countryside, golden beaches and lively resort towns lapped by clear turquoise water.

Guadeloupe’s surrounding waters are a paradise for swimming, snorkelling and diving, including the celebrated Cousteau Reserve, along with beautiful outlying islands such as Les Saintes, whose stunning bay is among the loveliest in the Caribbean. Sheltered anchorages and clear coves abound.

Ashore, the island offers celebrated Creole cuisine blending French and Caribbean flavours, along with rum, vibrant markets and a warm welcome. Its blend of culture and nature is appealing.

With its rainforests, waterfalls and beautiful beaches, Guadeloupe is a lush jewel of the French Caribbean. Guests can hike volcanic parks, snorkel vibrant reserves and enjoy the Creole culture and natural beauty of this varied and beautiful island.

Guadeloupe Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Guadeloupe, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to charter around Guadeloupe?

The dry season, from December through May and known locally as careme, gives the most settled weather and reliable trade winds for sailing. Hurricane season runs June to November, with the highest risk in August and September, so many charters avoid or keep a close eye on the forecast during that stretch. Water temperatures stay pleasant year-round, and the wetter season brings the rainforest interior at its greenest.

Which airport should we use to reach Guadeloupe?

Most charters fly into Pointe-a-Pitre International Airport (PTP), also called Le Raizet, on the main island, with regular connections from Paris and the wider French Caribbean. Guests bound for Les Saintes or Marie-Galante usually clear the marina first, since both are a short ferry or day sail from Guadeloupe’s mainland rather than served by a useful airport of their own.

Where are the best anchorages for a few quiet nights?

Terre-de-Haut in Les Saintes is the standout, its sheltered bay ringed by hills and considered one of the prettiest anchorages in the region. Deshaies, on Basse-Terre’s north-west coast, offers a calm, deep bay backed by a laid-back village, while Ilets Pigeon combines a good overnight spot with the Cousteau Reserve’s diving right off the boat.

How many days should we allow for a Guadeloupe itinerary?

A week gives enough time to combine Basse-Terre’s rainforest and diving with a couple of nights in Les Saintes and a stop on Marie-Galante for its distilleries and quiet beaches. Ten days to two weeks allows a fuller loop, adding Grande-Terre’s beaches and, conditions permitting, a passage further south toward Dominica.

Do we need anything special to charter in a French overseas territory like Guadeloupe?

Guadeloupe is a full department of France, so it uses the euro, follows EU and French maritime regulations, and EU nationals need no visa. Non-EU crew and guests should carry a valid passport as they would for mainland France. Provisioning is easy given the excellent French produce, wine and bakeries available even in small marinas, and check-in follows standard French customs procedure rather than a separate island process.
