November through April is Phuket’s dry season and the most reliable window for chartering, with calm seas and the best visibility for snorkelling and diving. The southwest monsoon runs from roughly May to October, bringing heavier rain and rougher water to the west coast anchorages, though the island’s east coast marinas stay more sheltered throughout. December through February is the busiest and driest stretch, while March and April offer similar weather with fewer crowds.

Phuket International Airport (HKT) sits on the island’s north coast, around 30 to 45 minutes by road from the main west coast beaches and marinas. It is one of Thailand’s busiest airports outside Bangkok, with direct international flights from across Asia, Europe and Australia, making Phuket the easiest point of entry for a charter anywhere on the Andaman coast. Most charter guests join their yacht at one of the island’s east coast marinas shortly after landing.

Ao Chalong, on the island’s sheltered southeast coast, is the main hub for provisioning, customs clearance and access to day trips further afield. Nai Harn Bay, on the southwest tip, offers calmer water than Patong or Kata and is a popular overnight stop outside the monsoon season. For berthing rather than anchoring, Ao Po Grand Marina and the Royal Phuket Marina on the east coast provide full facilities away from the more exposed west coast beaches.

Two to three nights let guests enjoy Phuket’s own beaches, Old Town and temples without rushing, though many charters treat the island primarily as a base rather than a lingering stop. From here, the Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay and, in season, the Similan Islands are all within reach for day trips or as the start of a longer Andaman itinerary. Guests beginning or ending a charter here often spend just a night ashore either side of the trip.

Phuket hosts the Vegetarian Festival each October, nine days of Chinese-Taoist ceremonies marked by street processions, firework displays and devotees performing acts of self-mortification such as piercing their cheeks with skewers, a tradition brought by Chinese tin miners in the nineteenth century. The festival draws large crowds to Phuket Old Town, so charter guests visiting that week should expect busier streets and book restaurants ahead. Outside festival season, the old town’s food scene remains distinctive on the Andaman coast.
