Dataça Superyacht Charter

Dataça is a beautiful and unspoilt peninsula on the southwestern coast of Turkey, a long, narrow finger of land reaching out toward the Greek islands where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. Wild, pine-clad and blessed with countless clear coves, it offers some of the most tranquil and scenic cruising on the Turkish coast.

The peninsula is celebrated for its pristine natural beauty, with forested hills sweeping down to a coastline of secluded turquoise bays, quiet beaches and crystal-clear water. Far from the busier resorts, it retains an authentic and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those seeking unspoilt anchorages.

At the tip of the peninsula lie the romantic ruins of ancient Knidos, a once-great Greek city with a beautiful setting and twin harbours, still a favourite anchorage today. The charming town of Dataça itself offers a relaxed marina, good restaurants and a genuine taste of Turkish life.

Ashore, the region is famous for its almonds, honey and clean air, along with warm hospitality and excellent local cuisine. Its combination of nature, history and tranquillity is deeply rewarding.

With its pine-clad coves, clear water and ancient ruins, Dataça is a beautiful and unspoilt corner of the Turquoise Coast. Guests can anchor in secluded turquoise bays, explore the romantic ruins of Knidos and enjoy the peaceful, natural beauty of this lovely Turkish peninsula.

Dataça Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Dataça, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time for a yacht charter around Datça?

Late May to early October gives the warmest water and most reliable weather around the Datça peninsula, though the meltemi, the strong northerly wind that funnels down the Aegean, tends to build through July and August and can make some of the more exposed anchorages choppy in the afternoon. June and September offer near-identical sea temperatures with calmer winds and quieter bays. Late February, when the almond trees blossom, draws a different visitor, though it is too cool to swim.

What's the nearest airport for a charter starting in Datça?

Dalaman Airport (DLM) is the usual gateway, around two hours by road from Datça town along the peninsula’s winding coastal route. Bodrum’s Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is a similar distance but on the opposite side of the gulf, reached by a short ferry crossing plus a drive, which can work out faster depending on flight schedules. Most charter guests fly into Dalaman and are transferred by car directly to the marina or to wherever the yacht is anchored.

Which bays are best for anchoring around Datça?

Palamutbükü is the most sheltered and sociable of the peninsula’s beach bays, with restaurants right on the waterfront, while Ovabükü next door feels wilder and quieter with open countryside behind its long stretch of sand. Hayıtbükü, tucked between headlands, is the calmest of the three and well suited to families. For a quieter overnight stop, Kargı Koyu and Aktur see far less traffic than the bays closer to Datça town itself.

How many days should a charter spend around Datça?

Two to three days allows time to explore Knidos properly, swim at two or three of the peninsula’s bays and spend an evening in Datça town’s old quarter without rushing. Datça sits conveniently between Bodrum and Marmaris, so it works well as a stop on a longer Turquoise Coast itinerary rather than a standalone destination, and many charters combine it with Symi or the other Greek Dodecanese islands just across the water.

Is there a good time to combine a Datça visit with a local festival?

Datça holds its Almond Blossom Festival each February, typically over four days in mid-month, when the peninsula’s almond trees flower and villages across the region put on food stalls, folk music and craft markets. The sea is too cool for swimming at that time of year, so it suits a shoulder-season land visit rather than a summer charter, but it is worth knowing about if a yacht is already positioned in the area for winter maintenance or an early-season delivery.
