Crete is the largest Greek island and one of the most rewarding bases for a motor yacht charter in the eastern Mediterranean. From Heraklion, Chania or Agios Nikolaos, a crewed motor yacht can reach the dramatic south coast in under two hours, accessing a shoreline that sees far less traffic than the north. The charter motor fleet available from Crete spans 30m to 80m, with most programmes running from 40m to 60m. Weekly rates typically start around 50,000 euros for a well-equipped 40m and climb to 200,000 euros or more for a large crewed yacht in peak season. Add approximately 30% for the advance provisioning allowance, covering fuel, mooring fees, provisions and crew expenses. Crete’s position at the southern edge of Greece makes it a natural starting point for eastward programmes toward Rhodes and the Dodecanese, or for westward passages toward the Peloponnese coast. The island’s north coast has well-equipped marinas and a steady summer sequence of harbour towns with good provisions. The south coast is wilder, with few roads reaching the water and several coves accessible only by sea. Motor yachts are particularly well-suited to Crete’s scale: the island is nearly 250km long, and covering that distance in comfort requires the speed and range that a motor vessel delivers.
