The Virgin Islands, encompassing both the British and US jurisdictions across the same island chain, form a single charter destination in practice even though they cross an international border. Motor yachts covering this region number 162, a deep and varied fleet able to make use of marinas on both sides of the boundary: Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie in the USVI and Road Town, Bitter End and Leverick Bay in the BVI. The dual-jurisdiction geography is a logistical advantage rather than a complication for charter guests: it means a single week can begin with the American infrastructure of St Thomas and end with the classic BVI anchorages of North Sound and The Baths without a gap in the programme. Tortola, the administrative capital of the British Virgin Islands, provides excellent provisioning at Road Town marina and acts as the natural midpoint of any east-west itinerary crossing the border. Virgin Gorda adds The Baths and the protected deep water of Gorda Sound, while the US Virgin Islands contribute Trunk Bay on St John and the wall diving off St Croix at Cane Bay. Weekly charter rates for motor yachts in the Virgin Islands range from around 50,000 euros per week for smaller vessels to well over 500,000 euros for the largest superyachts, with an advance provisioning allowance of roughly 30% for fuel, food and port fees. Customs clearance between jurisdictions requires stopping at a port of entry in each and is straightforward with a competent captain managing the paperwork.
