Hulls in composite or aluminium are engineered for ocean loading with ring frames or laminated floors, watertight arrangements, and rudder stocks and steering sized for continuous rather than occasional load. Machinery spaces are planned first, with redundancy and access designed in because servicing happens far from home. Handling depends entirely on hydraulics, since captive or large electric winches and powered furling are what let a small crew manage two hundred square metres of sail safely.
