Mallorca Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Mallorca, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
What's the best season to charter around Mallorca?

May, June and September offer warm water and settled weather without the July and August crowds, when anchorages off Cala Mondragó and Port de Sóller fill early in the day. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE regatta in late July or early August also brings extra boat traffic into Palma Bay, worth building an itinerary around rather than against if racing is part of the appeal.

Which airport should we use to reach Mallorca?

Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is the main gateway, around 8 kilometres from the city and its marinas, with direct flights from most major European cities through the summer. It is also the busiest airport in the Balearics, so guests flying in during the July and August peak should build extra time into transfers between the terminal and the harbour.

Which anchorages are worth prioritising on a first visit?

Cala Mondragó and Cala Figuera on the southeast coast suit an easy swim day close to Palma, while Sa Calobra and the cliffs of the Tramuntana coast reward the longer sail north for scenery alone. Port de Sóller offers a sheltered overnight stop with an old town a short walk from the water, within reach of Deià and Valldemossa.

How many days should a Mallorca charter last?

A week gives time to combine the Tramuntana coast with the calmer southeast, plus a day in Palma for La Seu and the old town streets around it. Shorter charters of three to four days usually focus on either the north coast’s cliffs and coves or the more sheltered anchorages closer to Palma, rather than trying to cover both.

Is Mallorca a good base for exploring the wider Balearics?

Yes. Menorca is roughly a half-day sail from Mallorca’s north coast, and Ibiza and Formentera are within reach to the southwest, making Mallorca a practical hub for a longer, multi-island itinerary. Palma’s marinas also carry the widest range of provisioning and repair services in the archipelago, useful if a charter is starting or ending here rather than passing through.
