Alonissos Superyacht Charter

Alonissos is the most tranquil and unspoilt of the Sporades, a green and peaceful island lying at the heart of Greece’s first national marine park. Remote, beautiful and blessed with exceptionally clear water, it offers a rare combination of pristine nature and authentic island charm.

The surrounding sea forms a vast protected marine park, the largest in Europe, a haven for the rare Mediterranean monk seal, dolphins and abundant sea life. Its crystal-clear water, uninhabited islets and pristine coves make it one of the most beautiful and rewarding cruising areas in Greece.

The island itself is green and mountainous, with a charming hilltop old village, a pretty harbour and quiet pine-fringed beaches. Free from mass tourism, it offers a genuinely peaceful atmosphere, excellent local cuisine and a deep connection to the natural world.

With its protected waters, pristine beauty and tranquil charm, Alonissos is a jewel of the Sporades. Guests can anchor in crystal-clear coves, explore uninhabited islets and enjoy the unspoilt nature and authentic atmosphere of this beautiful marine park.

Peaceful, pristine and richly rewarding, it offers a rare chance to cruise among protected waters where nature still flourishes and the pace of island life remains gentle and unhurried.

Alonissos Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Alonissos, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to charter around Alonissos?

May through September gives the most settled weather, with July and August the busiest and warmest months. The meltemi is generally gentler here than in the Cyclades, though it can still raise a chop around the more exposed northern islets. June and September offer calmer seas, quieter anchorages and water still warm enough for long swims.

How do you get to Alonissos by air?

Alonissos has no airport of its own. The nearest is on Skiathos, around 2.5 kilometres from Skiathos town, followed by a ferry crossing of roughly two hours. Seasonal direct ferries also run from the mainland ports of Volos and Agios Konstantinos, taking three to five hours depending on the vessel and route.

Which anchorage is best for a night at Alonissos?

Patitiri, the main port, is the most convenient for provisioning and an evening ashore, with tavernas along the harbourfront. Votsi, just around the headland, offers a quieter fishing-village alternative. Kokkinokastro and Agios Dimitrios further south suit a calm daytime stop for swimming rather than an overnight, given their more limited facilities.

How many days should we spend around Alonissos?

Two to three nights allow time to explore Patitiri and the old village above it, swim at Kokkinokastro, and still venture into the marine park’s outer waters toward Peristera or Kyra Panagia. As the quietest of the main Sporades, Alonissos rewards a slower pace than a single overnight stop allows, and it pairs naturally with Skiathos and Skopelos on a wider island-hopping itinerary through the group.

Do yachts need a permit to enter the National Marine Park?

The waters immediately around Alonissos and Peristera fall under the park’s more relaxed Zone B, where normal cruising applies alongside a few local speed limits. The outer Zone A, covering Kyra Panagia, Gioura, Piperi and Psathoura, is far more strictly protected and closed to casual mooring, so a captain wanting to explore that far north should contact the park’s Management Body in advance rather than assume access.
