Portisco Superyacht Charter

Portisco is a modern, well-equipped marina on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, tucked into a sheltered bay amid the granite headlands and emerald water for which this coast is famous. Quieter than its glamorous neighbours, it offers an ideal and convenient base for exploring one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful cruising grounds.

The marina’s protected setting and excellent facilities make it a favourite starting point for yacht charters along the Costa Smeralda. From here the exclusive resorts of Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo are close at hand, along with countless coves, white beaches and the pristine islands of the La Maddalena archipelago.

The surrounding coast is a succession of clear turquoise bays and sculpted pink granite, offering superb swimming, snorkelling and anchoring. Sheltered water and reliable summer conditions make it an easy and rewarding area to cruise, with a new anchorage around every headland.

Combining practicality with beauty, Portisco is a peaceful and elegant gateway to the Costa Smeralda. Guests can enjoy the emerald waters and glamorous resorts of the coast by day, returning to a calm and well-appointed marina in one of Sardinia’s loveliest settings.

Portisco Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Portisco, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to book a berth at Marina di Portisco?

Berths fill up fastest from mid-July through August, when the whole Costa Smeralda is at capacity and Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo overflow into neighbouring marinas like this one. Outside the height of summer, from May through June and again in September, Portisco is markedly easier to book and the surrounding coves are noticeably quieter, while the water is still comfortably warm enough for daily swimming.

How far is Portisco from the nearest airport?

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is under 20 kilometres away by road, one of the shorter airport transfers on this coast and closer than the drive to either Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo. That makes Portisco a practical choice for a charter’s first or last night, letting guests land, transfer and be aboard within roughly half an hour in light traffic.

What are the best anchorages within reach of Portisco?

Golfo di Marinella, just a couple of miles south, is the most sheltered spot on this stretch and where most boats anchor rather than inside the gulf itself. Rena Bianca and Razza di Giunco offer striking pink granite and quartzite scenery a short run away, while Isola di Mortorio, a small protected island further out, rewards a slower half-day trip with clear water and fewer boats than the Costa Smeralda’s better-known beaches.

Is Portisco worth more than an overnight stop?

For most itineraries, yes, but only for a day or two rather than a full week: it works well as a base for exploring Golfo di Marinella and the coves toward Golfo degli Aranci, or as a quick provisioning and refuelling stop before pushing on to Porto Cervo or south to Olbia. Guests planning to spend real time ashore usually do that in Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo instead, saving Portisco for the marina’s practical strengths.

Why can't yachts anchor directly in the Golfo di Cugnana, right off the marina?

Anchoring inside the gulf itself is prohibited because of submarine telegraph cables running across its bed, a restriction that surprises some first-time visitors expecting to drop the hook in sight of the marina. In practice this simply means using the marina’s own berths for an overnight stay, or motoring the short distance to Golfo di Marinella, which is sheltered enough to serve as the de facto anchorage for this part of the coast.
