Porto Rotondo Superyacht Charter

Porto Rotondo is one of the most stylish and exclusive resorts on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, a beautifully designed marina village set around a natural harbour on the island’s northeast coast. Purpose-built in the 1960s, it has become a byword for elegant Mediterranean living and a favourite call for visiting yachts.

At its heart lies a charming piazza and a network of pretty streets lined with designer boutiques, art galleries and fashionable restaurants. The setting is idyllic, with granite headlands, pine woods and clear emerald water framing the harbour, while sheltered bays and sandy beaches lie within easy reach.

The village sits close to the glamour of Porto Cervo and the pristine islands of the La Maddalena archipelago, placing some of the finest anchorages in Sardinia on its doorstep. Days can be spent on secluded beaches and in crystal-clear coves, with evenings given over to fine dining and people-watching.

With its polished marina, sophisticated atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings, Porto Rotondo offers the very best of the Costa Smeralda in an intimate and refined setting. It is Mediterranean chic at its most inviting, and one of the most rewarding stops on any Sardinian cruise.

Porto Rotondo Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Porto Rotondo, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to charter around Porto Rotondo?

June through September gives the most reliable weather and the full run of restaurants, boutiques and beach clubs, though July and August bring the marina to its social peak, with berths tight and prices highest. May and late September offer a calmer, still-warm alternative with quieter anchorages nearby. The Costa Smeralda’s season generally mirrors the rest of northern Sardinia, running from late spring into early autumn.

What's the nearest airport for reaching Porto Rotondo?

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) is the closest, around 25km and roughly a 25 to 30 minute drive from the marina, with direct flights from most major European cities through the summer season. Guests can also fly into Alghero or Cagliari and transfer by road, though both add well over an hour to the journey. Many charter guests choose to join the yacht directly at Marina di Porto Rotondo.

Where should we drop anchor near Porto Rotondo?

Ira Beach, tucked inside the Golfo di Cugnana, and the coves around Punta Volpe are the most sheltered options close to the village, both a short tender ride from the marina. For more open water, the bays toward Punta degli Asfodeli offer good holding with fewer boats nearby. Conditions are generally calm in summer, though a mistral from the northwest can make the more exposed anchorages uncomfortable.

How many days should we spend at Porto Rotondo?

Two to three days is enough to enjoy the village itself, swim the nearby coves and make an evening visit to Porto Cervo, roughly 20 minutes away by tender or car. Most charter itineraries combine Porto Rotondo with the wider Costa Smeralda, adding La Maddalena’s islands or Olbia to the north for variety. Guests focused purely on beach time and marina life sometimes stay a full week without moving.

Is it true there's a beach near Porto Rotondo named after Shirley Bassey?

Yes. A small, sheltered stretch of sand along the coast is still known locally as Spiaggia Bassey, after the British singer who spent long days at sea here on holiday in the early 1970s. It’s one of several quirks in a resort with an unusual history of its own: Porto Rotondo was developed independently from 1964 by the Venetian Donà dalle Rose brothers, two years after the Aga Khan’s consortium began building Porto Cervo just up the coast.
