Twelve guests at fifty metres is the point where a charter stops feeling like a boat and starts behaving like a house that moves. At around one hundred and sixty four feet there is enough volume to give all twelve a proper cabin, to run a saloon and a sky lounge as two separate rooms, and to carry a crew of eleven to fourteen.
Sixty nine yachts sit in this bracket and the spread of builders is wide. Feadship leads with nine hulls, ahead of Amels, Codecasa, Heesen and Westport, and the fleet runs from the teak and rattan of Silolona to the hard modern lines of Seven Sins and Lel. Fifty two of the sixty nine carry six cabins, so the usual arrangement is a main deck master with five below rather than a squeeze.
Weekly rates run from eighty five thousand euros at the traditional end to three hundred thousand for the newest deliveries, with the median close to two hundred and twenty thousand and most of the fleet between one hundred and seventy five and two hundred and forty five thousand. An advance provisioning allowance of roughly thirty percent covers fuel, food, berthing and drinks.
Fifty metres still berths in Portofino, Bonifacio and Hydra without a negotiation, which is the real argument for this size over sixty.
