Seventy metres sits in the part of the fleet where scale and manoeuvrability still balance. At close to two hundred and thirty feet these yachts carry four or five decks and a crew of sixteen to twenty two, yet remain welcome in marinas that turn away anything longer. For a group of twelve, the ratio of space to guests is close to its practical maximum.
The bracket is unusually varied. Alongside displacement motor yachts such as Okto, Seanna and Life Saga sit some of the most distinctive sailing yachts afloat, including the Perini Navi ketch Vertigo, the classic schooner Creole and the Indonesian phinisi LAMIMA. A seventy metre charter can therefore mean a full spa and cinema, or a rig that draws a crowd in every harbour it enters.
Weekly rates run from roughly one hundred and eighty nine thousand euros at the sailing end to eight hundred and seventy five thousand for the newest motor yachts, with most of the fleet between four hundred and fifty and six hundred and fifty thousand. Add an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent covering fuel, food, berthing and drinks, and expect high season to sit at the top of the band.
Summers are spent between the South of France, Sardinia, the Amalfi coast and the Greek islands, with winter crossings to Saint Barths and the Grenadines.
