Classic on a charter yacht means one of three things. A pre-war hull restored to its original lines, a modern vessel built to a period design, or a traditional wooden boat still made the way it always was. What they share is that the shape came first and the accommodation was fitted around it, which is the reverse of how a contemporary yacht is drawn.
The forty classic yachts we charter run from thirty metres to sixty nine, with the median near forty seven. Feadship is the best represented yard with nine hulls, alongside Camper and Nicholsons, CRN, Benetti and Holland Jachtbouw, plus the phinisi builders of South Sulawesi. Expect narrow beam, low freeboard, deep bulwarks and a great deal of real teak. Expect also less interior volume per metre than a new build, and only rarely a beach club. Thirty one are motor yachts and nine carry sail.
Weekly rates run from roughly forty nine thousand euros to three hundred and eighty thousand, with the median close to one hundred and thirty thousand, plus an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent. Restoration quality drives the price here far more than length does. A properly rebuilt nineteen thirties hull with new systems will charter above a larger modern yacht without much argument.
