Lefkada is connected to the Greek mainland by a short causeway and floating bridge, which gives it an unusual status among Greek islands: accessible by road, but surrounded on three sides by the open Ionian Sea. Its geography rewards a motor yacht charter decisively. The island’s west coast is backed by steep mountains and faces a succession of beaches, Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma, that are legendary in the region. To the east, the shallow Lefkada Channel and the anchorages around Nidri, Sivota and Meganisi provide calm, protected water ideal for families and slower-paced exploration.
The 45 motor yachts available in Greek waters for the Lefkada area cover a wide range, from 20-metre sportscruisers capable of crossing to Ithaca in under an hour to 55-metre flagship vessels with multiple decks and a permanent crew of eight. Most base in the Ionian through the summer season, either in Nidri on Lefkada’s east coast or in Corfu further north.
Charter rates for motor yachts in the Lefkada area start around 15,000 euros per week for smaller vessels and exceed 200,000 euros per week for the largest, before the advance provisioning allowance of 30 percent. Fuel is the main variable; motor yachts visiting Lefkada’s west coast beaches and then crossing to Kefalonia or Zakynthos in a single week will consume more diesel than a purely channel itinerary.
