Naxos is ringed by wind. The meltemi funnels between Paros and Naxos on the west, accelerates through the channel between Naxos and Mykonos on the north, and sweeps unobstructed across the eastern shores from the Turkish coast. For the sailing yachts available through Greek waters and accessible from Naxos, this is not a challenge but the whole point: the Cyclades in summer deliver the most consistent and technically interesting sailing in the Mediterranean, and Naxos sits at the centre of the best of it. Vessels range from compact 20-metre sloops suited to an experienced couple to 55-metre ketches carrying twelve guests with full crew. Rigs are matched to Greek conditions: high-aspect sails, furling systems, and full navigation instruments for the passages between islands in the reduced visibility that occasionally accompanies the meltemi tail. Weekly rates begin at approximately 50,000 euros for a 30-metre monohull and reach over 200,000 euros for the largest ketches. The advance provisioning allowance of roughly 30 percent covers fuel for motoring, marina fees, provisioning and water toys.
