The coves around Nerano at the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula are among the most sheltered on the coast, protected by the cliffs above and open to the light morning breeze that makes them ideal for sailing yachts on a passage between Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Nine sailing yachts in the collection use these waters regularly, setting out from Sorrento or Naples before dawn to catch the northwesterly morning breeze and arrive at Marina del Cantone by mid-morning for swimming and breakfast at anchor. The bay at Nerano has a sandy bottom at eight to twelve metres, giving sailing yachts good scope for kedging and comfortable overnight anchoring in settled conditions. Rates for sailing charters in this area run from approximately 85,000 to 245,000 euros per week, with the advance provisioning allowance of roughly 30 percent covering fuel, food, and berthing. Sailing yachts spend less on fuel than equivalent motor yachts, as engines are needed mainly in and out of berths and when the wind drops overnight. Nerano fits naturally into a sailing circuit that starts in Naples, follows the Bay of Naples south to Capri, crosses to the Amalfi Coast at Positano, and returns via the anchorages of Praiano and Furore. The village of Massa Lubrense above Nerano is worth a half-day of walking for guests interested in the olive-growing landscape of the Sorrentine Peninsula, and the crew arranges provisions from the local market to supplement the onboard larder during a layover day.
