Skopelos is one of the most naturally suited destinations for sailing charter in the northern Aegean. The island’s position at the heart of the Sporades puts it within a productive day’s sail of Skiathos to the west, Alonissos to the east and the Pelion peninsula to the south, while its own north coast carries anchorages that reward patient exploration under sail. Eight sailing yachts are available for charter in Greece, ranging from classic ketch-rigged vessels to modern performance sloops, all suited to the Sporades’ mix of afternoon thermal breezes and occasional northerly meltemi. Weekly rates range from around 55,000 to over 100,000 euros for vessel and full crew, with provisioning allowances of 20 to 25% covering provisions, marina fees and fuel for motoring passages. The Skiathos Strait, the passage between Skiathos and the mainland, provides one of the most reliable sailing corridors in the northern Aegean, funnelling wind from the northwest through a natural channel. Guests typically fly into Skiathos Airport and take the ferry to Skopelos, or embark directly at Skiathos for a west-to-east itinerary. The season for sailing in the Sporades runs from May through October, with July and August the most active months on the water.
