Zakhyntos is one of the Ionian islands that earns its reputation honestly: Navagio Beach, the famous shipwreck bay, is genuinely as dramatic from the sea as it appears in photographs, and the island’s emerald coastline, sea caves, and sandy coves are best explored by boat rather than road. Motor yachts are the natural vehicle here. The Ionian’s summer winds are lighter and less consistent than the Cyclades’ meltemi, making motor more reliable for itinerary planning, and the passages between Zakhyntos, Kefalonia, Lefkada, and Corfu are short enough to cover comfortably in a week.
The motor fleet operating across the Ionian islands typically runs from 35 to 80 metres, with the 40- to 60-metre segment offering five to eight cabins for groups of ten to twelve guests. Large swim platforms are standard, water-toy packages are generous, and crews are accustomed to island-specific requests, including dropping anchor off Navagio before the day-tripper boats arrive and positioning for the evening light at the Blue Caves.
Charter rates for motor yachts in the Ionian start around 59,000 euros per week and reach 300,000 euros for the larger superyachts. The advance provisioning allowance of 30 percent covers fuel, food, berths, and drinks. Zakhyntos is busiest in July and August; June and September offer better anchorage availability and prices across the fleet, with sea temperatures still warm.
A motor yacht charter is the most practical way to see Zakhyntos properly, since the island’s best features are all accessible only from the sea.
