May through September gives the calmest water and the warmest sea, with June and September the sweet spot: the peak-August crowds thin out at Marina del Cantone and the celebrated trattorias are easier to book. April and October can still work for a shoulder-season charter, though a few restaurants close for the winter and the water is noticeably cooler for swimming.
Most fly into Naples Capodichino Airport (NAP), roughly 30km and a 45-minute drive from Sorrento, then join the yacht there or continue by sea around the peninsula to Marina del Cantone. There’s no direct airport nearby, and the coastal road down into Nerano itself is narrow, so arriving by tender from a Sorrento or Capri berth is usually simpler than driving all the way in.
Marina del Cantone is the natural base, a deep, sheltered bay lined with restaurants and a working dive centre. From there it’s a short hop to the FAI-protected Baia di Ieranto, a former limestone quarry turned nature reserve, and to the quieter coves at Mitigliano and Marciano, both used less by day-trip boats than Cantone itself.
One or two nights is typical, enough for a swim at Baia di Ieranto, a hike out to Punta Campanella and a proper dinner ashore without rushing. Most guests pair it with time in Sorrento or Positano either side, since Nerano works best as a quiet, food-focused interlude within a wider Sorrentine Peninsula or Amalfi Coast itinerary rather than a standalone base.
Not for chartering itself. A December 2024 regional court ruling struck down permit quotas, secretarial fees and mandatory AIS tracking that had briefly been imposed on charter operators in the reserve. The marine park’s own zoning still applies, though: anchoring is banned in the strictest zones and permitted only at designated points in the outer zone, including Marina del Cantone, between 8am and 8pm.
