Amalfi Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Amalfi, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When's the best time to charter a yacht along the Amalfi Coast?

Late May to early October offers the most reliable weather, with June and September striking the best balance of warm seas and lighter crowds. July and August bring the busiest anchorages and the coastal road at its most congested, when day-trippers fill Positano and Amalfi from mid-morning onward, so arriving by yacht in those months is when the advantage of avoiding the shore traffic is most apparent.

What's the nearest airport for an Amalfi Coast charter?

Naples International Airport (NAP) is the main gateway, roughly 60 kilometres from Amalfi by road, with transfers taking around 90 minutes in light traffic and considerably longer on summer weekends. A smaller regional option, Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, sits closer to the coast’s eastern end but currently handles limited scheduled traffic, so most charter guests still fly into Naples.

Where should we anchor along the Amalfi Coast?

Fiordo di Furore, a narrow fjord-like inlet, and the bay at Marina di Praiano both offer good holding close to the cliffs. Marina del Cantone, near Nerano at the coast’s western tip, is a favourite for lunch stops with calmer water than the more exposed anchorages further east. The Li Galli islands, once owned by the dancer Rudolf Nureyev, make for a scenic detour between Positano and Capri.

How many days do you need to see the Amalfi Coast by yacht?

Three to four days allows time to explore Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello without rushing, plus a stop at the Emerald Grotto and a swim at Fiordo di Furore. Many charters pair the coast with Capri, a short crossing away, extending the itinerary to a week and combining the cliffside towns with Capri’s own anchorages and the Blue Grotto.

Is it faster to arrive by yacht than by road?

Often, yes. The SS163 coastal road that links the Amalfi Coast’s towns is narrow, single-lane in places, and heavily congested in summer, with local traffic rules including alternating odd and even licence plate days introduced to ease the worst of it. Arriving by tender bypasses the road entirely, and many owners use it specifically to reach restaurants and beach clubs in Positano or Amalfi without the delays drivers face on land.
