Shroud Cay sits at the northern end of the Exumas Land and Sea Park, open to the steady southeast trade winds that blow across Exuma Sound from November through April. Sailing yachts are at home here: the consistent 15 to 20-knot breeze fills the sails from Nassau south, and the shallow, protected waters of Exuma Sound allow comfortable daysails between anchorages. The sailing charter fleet available for a Shroud Cay voyage numbers around 19 published yachts, covering modern performance cruisers, classic ketches and expedition-ready bluewater sloops from roughly 20 metres to 45 metres. Crews of three to five handle all navigation, so guests can sit forward with a rum punch and watch the colour of the water change from deep Atlantic blue to the luminous turquoise of the Bahama Banks. Weekly rates for sailing yachts in the Bahamas run from approximately 50,000 euros for a contemporary 24-metre cruiser to 175,000 euros for a larger performance yacht. The advance provisioning allowance of around 30 percent covers food, drink, marina fees and the Bahamian cruising permit. High season is November to May, when the trades are reliable and the anchorages inside the park are calm overnight. The approach to Shroud Cay from the east requires timing to the tide and rewards with a spectacular view of the tidal creek mouth as you drop anchor in clear, shallow water.
