Explorer yachts are built around a different question. Not how quickly can we reach Saint Tropez, but how far from it can we comfortably go. The category covers converted commercial hulls, purpose-built expedition yachts and a growing number of rugged displacement designs, and what they share is range, redundancy and the ability to stay self-sufficient a long way from a marina.
Our explorer charter fleet runs from thirty metre steel hulls to converted vessels beyond eighty metres. Expect fuel capacity for four or five thousand nautical miles, reinforced or ice-classed hulls on many yachts, large tender complements including proper chase boats, and increasingly a submarine or a helicopter on the larger examples. Interior volume is generous because these hulls are beamy and full, and the accommodation frequently exceeds twelve guests where the yacht carries a passenger certificate.
Rates run from roughly seventy thousand euros a week for a mid-size explorer to well past five hundred thousand for the largest and best-equipped, plus an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent. Fuel is a larger consideration on genuinely remote itineraries, and repositioning costs are worth discussing early.
